For example, the new 7FBEU 3-Wheel Electric truck built with Toyota's
AC Power System includes energy recovery provided by three forms of regenerative
braking:
– Foot Braking (also extends brake pad wear)
– Coast Control (accelerator released)
– Plug Braking (switch-back)
Coast Control (accelerator released)
During coasting conditions, the AC drive motors act as generators supplying energy
back to the battery (regenerative braking). The resistance in the motors during
the condition acts as a "brake-assist" which helps slow the truck while improving
brake component life.
Plug Braking (switch-back)
The plug braking operation is done quicker and smoother due to Toyota's AC
drive motors.
Additional, innovative features of AC Powered trucks include:
- Momentary Hold/Controlled Descent – maximizes lift truck control
when the accelerator pedal is released on a grade by regulating rolling
speed. It also allows the lift truck to be started on an inclined
surface without rolling backward.
- Power Keep Function – allows the AC motors to continue performance at
productive levels even when the battery level is low.
- Automatic Shut Off – saves battery power by turning off the truck after
15 minutes of idle time to extend battery shift life.
Virtually all Toyota 7-Series lift trucks sold in North America are assembled at
our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Columbus, Indiana. The dedicated
people of Columbus are building the world's most advanced electric and internal
combustion lift trucks. To learn more about our manufacturing facility, visit our
